5 players signed by Milan this summer
In the upcoming season, Milan will have quite a new face. The Rossoneri, who want to return the glory days, have already signed five new players, the latest being Gonzalo Higuain who moved on loan from Juventus. Here is the list: Pepe Reina The Spanish veteran goalkeeper moved to Milan on a free transfer after his contract with Napoli had expired. In Naples, the 36-year-old spent three previous seasons, and he played 111 matches in Serie A during that spell. At Milan, Reina signed a three-year deal, and he should add to the goalkeeping options for the head coach Gennaro Gattuso. Notably Pepe was a member of the Spanish squad at the recent World Cup, even if he was he was just a back-up to David De Gea. Ivan Strinic Similar to Reina, the Croatian left back has signed a three-year contract and moved on a free transfer - but from Sampdoria. However, he had also played for Napoli between 2015 and 2017. Not a regular starter in his previous Italian clubs, Strinic should add to defensive options at Milan. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a good World Cup, where he sensationally won a silver medal as a part of Croatian team. Alen Halilovic Strinic's fellow countryman was once considered a "wonderkid" in Croatia, but so far has not lived up to expectations. At 18, he signed with Barcelona but failed to play a single game for their main team. However, Halilovic did a better job at Sporting Gijon and Las Palmas, and while he belonged to Hamburg in the two recent years, he spent most of his time on loan in Spain. It was pretty surprising to see Alen moving to Milan, but obviously the club believes in his talent, and the players hopes to finally break through at the age of 22. Mattia Caldara The 24-year defender, who belonged to Juventus, was swapped for the famous Leonardo Bonucci, with both players valued at 35 million euros. Caldara, who has made this debut for Italy this year, actually spent the two previous seasons on loan at Atalanta, where he was a regular starter. A tall and physical central back, Mattia has a potential to further improve, so Milan's bosses see him as a good signing for the future. Gonzalo Higuain Unlike Caldara, Higuain has moved from Juventus on loan, but Milan has an option to buy him next year. After Juve signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo's future in Turin was not certain, so the club have let the 30-year-old striker go. Initially the Argentine was linked with a move to Chelsea, where his former coach at Napoli Maurizio Sarri took over this summer. However, Milan were more persistent - as Higuain explained himself, "Everyone wanted me at Milan, while only Sarri wanted me at Chelsea."
